The paperwork

A wetland evaluation, simplified.

If your project touches a wetland in Alberta, the Alberta Wetland Policy wants to know which wetland, what class, what value and what you're going to do about it. That takes an Authenticating Wetland Professional in the field, and a report a regulator will accept.

We do the field work, write the report and sign it. One person, start to finish.

What we do

Delineation, evaluation, authentication.

  • Delineation

Where the wetland starts and stops, flagged in the field from soils, vegetation and hydrology.

  • Evaluation

Class, form and relative value under the Alberta Wetland Policy, using the provincial rapid evaluation tool.

  • Authentication

The AWP sign-off the policy asks for: the assessment, the submission and the person who stands behind it.

  • Riparian & vegetation surveys

Riparian health, vascular plant inventories and rare plant searches, from the same practice areas.

Credentials

Why hire an Authenticating Wetland Professional?

Because it is the credential Alberta's wetland policy names, and because the field work and the signature should come from the same person. No subcontracted survey, no junior tech. Kirby walks the site and writes the report. He also knows what the beaver on it is about to do, which most wetland consultants treat as a complication.

FAQ

Questions we get a lot.

Which province are you certified in?

Alberta. Kirby is a Professional Biologist and Authenticating Wetland Professional with the ASPB. For work elsewhere in Canada we team up with locally registered professionals wherever a provincial signature is required.

When should the field work happen?

In the growing season, when the plants are up and the hydrology is readable. Book early; the window is short and so is the summer.

How long does a report take?

It depends on the site and the season. We put a date in the plan and keep it.

Do you work outside Alberta?

Yes. We work anywhere in Canada. Travel is itemized in the plan, so you can see what a site visit costs before you book one.
